I'm not the only thing aging.

adam and i have agreed to not buy gifts for one another this year because we would like to get SCUBA certified for our honeymoon. another way to save money, we decided not to go out to dinner. instead, adam tackled his desire to age a fine cut of meat. the process for aging meat requires the meat to hang for several days (sometimes longer) until the bacteria breaks down some enzymes for a tender, juicier, more natural flavored steak. this may sound unsanitary to some, but keep in mind, this is how the big-name steak houses get their claim to fame. adam then seared them with fresh garlic and pepper, added some dill/garlic mashed baby reds and acorn squash on the side, and happy birthday me! SO delicious!! many compliments to my chef. :)

"THE PICTURE DOES NOT DO IT JUSTICE" -Adam

this birthday on a budget was still very special. when i arrived home from work, i was greeted by balloons scattered about and a birthday card from my future husband. the card quoted Shakespeare's thoughts on birthdays...and cake. :) then beneath is was a little cake. (2 cakes in 3 days makes for 1 happy birthday girl!!) then, on my way out the door to head to adam's for dinner, there he was, with gerberA (ha) daisies in hand. nothing can brighten up a dreary, cold march night like bright, fresh flowers! it was a perfect, relaxing birthday.

also - in my family, there is a silent competition of who can give the best birthday card thoughtout the year. nobody will admit it because their trying to be modest but its there so i will announce the winner: my aunt SUSAN! (stay tuned for a future post featuring the card)

actually babe, the enzymes break down the tissue... there's really no bacteria (or at least there shouldn't be). but hey, who's checking right? love you!!
